Work in progress

Here I have started to make a giant cookie, I'm going to make this my positive cookie.

B&W Color Background Compositions

This time I took the color out of the flower and used it as the background color for new compositions.

"Rootz Dem Run Deep" Online

This is my Virtual Exhibition. Link to Rootz Dem Run Deep Virtual Exhibition

The exhibition is organized to immerse you in the themes of Da Islands, Da Culture, Da Food, and Da People, with each area providing a unique perspective. To enrich your experience, I've included interactive pop-ups for each item. These reveal the story of the piece, the creative process, and its dimensions, allowing you to completely appreciate each aspect.

Even though my show is based in Beverly, MA, I made it virtual to make it more accessible. Traveling to view the show can be expensive, so I wanted to make sure that everyone, wherever, could see the work. For those who do attend in person, the virtual exhibition allows them to bring the experience home and revisit it whenever they choose.

Behind the Name: Rootz Dem Run Deep speaks to the unshakable foundation of culture and identity. It’s a reminder that our roots anchor us, even as we grow and branch out into new experiences.

Working Translator

Last week I was able to put together a translator of the glyph based alphabet used in the webseries Generation Loss. Unfortunately, that version would not allow the font to be embedded in the tool itself, which made it useless to publish for other people to use. I was able to fix that issue and publish the translator on itch.io as a working browser-based application.

I would like to update it further by changing some of the colors and elements to make it look more polished and thematic, as well as figuring out how to provide a better experience when scaling the window and for viewing on mobile devices. I would also like to figure out a way to have a version of what is typed that is viewable in the Roman alphabet.

I also plan on working on creating new weights of the font and a script/handwritten version of the font as well.

New AI Sign Posters - 11/21/24

Link to PDF containing new AI signs: 11/21 New AI Sign Posters

I generated AI interpretations of new signs despite being absent from class today.

There are now solutions for "No Parking", "Handicapped Parking", "No Smoking", and "Smoking Area" that I made using the same method described in my last few posts.

I'm not sure how to move forward with these sign variants. Perhaps I could stay on track by organizing them into another scientific method presentation like the Prompted Type/Images Booklets? I'm honestly open to anything if anyone has ideas.

Tight cropped compositions

I wanted to try to stick with one concept so I'm trying out the brightly colored POP POSION, as I call it, and played around with some compositions of it tightly cropped and zoomed in.

Design and Code Playground

I have been stuck with my project for a long time now. My plan for the moment is to just try to make something. I have an interest in a web series called Generation Loss which currently has an ARG game going on. They have created a glyph based alphabet that the community has decoded. I have created a font of the glyph and would like to try to create a web-based translation tool for easier decoding.

Moving Further into Abstraction

Instead of listening to a song this time, I was remembering both of the songs I had listened to, and the rhythm of those, as well as the rhythm of the pieces I made earlier in the semester where I was using memory as a reference for the way the spoon physically looks.

Mock up Booklets Documented

I have mocked up my two booklets and did a little photoshoot with them to document for the blog. I think my second attempt in binding was a lot neater compared to the first. I do think they make a nice set and could be interesting to see what they would look like professional bound with Lulu or something like that.

Scientific Method: Idioms

Continuing my exploration of idioms, I want to bridge the research I have been doing with the association tests with my interest in observing language through idioms. I have been interested in idioms because they don't always make sense literally, unless you have prior knowledge of the idioms' purpose of expression, you are just left to figure out its meaning on your own or ask someone else what it means. In that sense it is kind of this instinctual or inscripted interpretation of language which can look different from person to person.

Through this research I am interested on seeing how people have formed different associations with an idiom. I want to analyze the understood meaning of an idiom and it's abstracted literal meaning and then compare the two to see how outrageous the connection between understood meaning (inscripted) and associated meaning (instinctual) can become.

Process: For my idiom interpretation tests I have a couple ideas of how I could go about collecting data and visualizing peoples interpretations, while trying to keep order and make sense of the madness.

Step One:I explore one idiom and test it’s interpretation as a whole and broken into its single words.
I ask about 5 people their first association with an idiom and record their response

Step Two:A couple of days later, I test them with another association list of about ten words - with the idiom hidden in the list, so their responses are not skewed from their previous answer.

Step Three:I am hypothesizing that with the first test the participants will give me an answer relating to the idioms understood meaning. In the second test, their response to the idioms parts will most likely have nothing to do with its understood meaning.

Step Four: I will then take the answers from the second test and compare them to the idiom, the understood meaning, and the participants' associated meaning.

Idioms I am considering using, I am open to suggestions too:

Everything but the kitchen sink

Additional variants of AI sign posters - 11/19/24

All variants of my AI signage posters can be found here: 11/19 All AI Sign Posters

As the title of this post suggests, I went back and generated more variants of my sign posters. There are now six different interpretations of each sign in the PDF linked above.

Nothing changed about my process. I simply thought it would be a good idea to accumulate a bunch of these so that people can see the most interesting solutions of the hundreds I've generated.

My plan for next class is to create solutions for new signs (no parking, no smoking/smoking area, ect.).

Sad cookies

The main thing I discovered while working on these cookies was that environment matters. I made these around 11am to 5pm. I usually start after dinner so around 8pm. The big difference is what is going on in the house. Usually at 8pm people have settled down. Weather they are playing video games or watching tv, people are usually out of the kitchen by then. Starting earlier in the day created some issues. Like groceries being put away, football on in the background, sharing space with frustrated people doing their own projects, and just simply people going in and out of the kitchen all day to make food or grabbing snacks. It makes it harder to escape, instead I found it to be overstimulation. Creating a harder environment to work in, harder to focus, irritable and agitated. Focusing on the surrounding sounds rather than relaxing while focusing on my project.
