Last Round of AI Sign Hybrids (For Now) - 1/30/25

PDF containing all 54 AI sign hybrid solutions: 1/30 All AI Sign Hybrids

New signs, same process. Y'all know the drill. My plan for next week is to take photos of signs in the real world and replace them with these AI sign hybrids. As per usual, this batch of combinations are below.

1. No Smoking + Sorry, We're Closed + "highway exit sign"

2. No Parking + Smoking Area + "sorry, we're closed sign"

3. Wet Floor + Handicapped Parking + "danger, do not enter sign"

Plastic Under The Microscope

I was curious about what the receipts' surfaces would look like underneath a microscope. Some are printed, and some are burnt. I also included some of the plastic that the microscope was wrapped in.

Nourishment

I started jotting down some notes on what nourishment is, or at least what I think it is, trying to start making connections.

Zine Updates & Drop-Off Flyer

I made the suggested updates to the zine from the last class. I am planning to start production after class, I am going to print and mockup about 75 zines. Over the weekend, I am going to try to find an appropriate drop-off box for the zines so I can set everything up on Monday in front of H201. The flyer is to help direct the users where to submit their completed zines, it will hang above the drop-off box.

Continuing AI Sign Hybrids - 1/29/25

PDF containing every AI sign hybrid solution thus far: 1/29 AI Sign Hybrids

After Tuesday's class, I decided to keep generating more AI sign hybrids. My approach of inputting different signs for the composition reference, style reference, and written prompt is exact the same. The new combinations are listed below.

1. No Trespassing + Wet Floor + "speed limit sign"

2. Handicapped Parking + Danger, Do Not Enter + "wet floor sign"

3. Highway Exit+ Speed Limit + "smoking area sign"

New Experiments

I went back through the work I did last semester, reviewing themes that I was exploring, and how I was exploring them. I wanted to focus more on the three things that I found were related to spoons, in order to maintain a path of connection while moving away from the iconography of them. I initially thought that I would explore measurement through the use of the simple shape of a circle. However looking at them now, I think they might fit nourishment because they have a sense of fullness to them.

Community Zine Survey

During end-of-semester evaluations, it was suggested that I take my association tests to the next level by broadening the subject pool to the Montserrat Community. I liked this idea and thought that it would be fun to design a zine that I could leave around campus. I am also considering posting the survey questions to my socials to get a broader survey pool.

I will be using the process that I developed last semester to collect data from the community. I am still interested in language, associations, and patterns within my findings. From the data, I hope to create posters, infographics, motion graphics, and patterns.

Why a zine:
I am interested in finding patterns in chaos, and common ground in associations. I have been exploring themes of intuition and illogical processes as a reaction to artificial intelligence. In the zine, I utilize Surrealist and Dadaist games that unlock the subconscious. Proving there is no universal logic since we all have our own kind of illogical logic that we determine our aesthetics and taste on, that is completely relevant to only ourselves.

AI Sign Hybrids - 1/24/25

Link to PDF containing AI sign hybrids: 1/24 AI Sign Hybrids

Now that we're back in Seminar after winter break, I went through with creating AI sign hybrids I proposed at the end of my process book last semester. My way of thinking was that I would end up with my solutions would be even more nonsensical if I combined multiple signs with different meanings. For example, I paired my Danger, Do Not Enter mockup as a composition reference with the No Trespassing mockup for my style reference and entered "handicapped parking sign" as my prompt to get strange amalgamations of the three signs. I ended up generating three hybrid signs with six solutions for each. The combinations I inputted are below.

1. Danger, Do Not Enter + No Trespassing + "handicapped parking sign"

2. Wet Floor + Highway Exit + "no smoking sign"

3. Smoking Area + Handicapped Parking + "fire escape sign"

I feel that these hybrid signs correlate with a lot of the feedback I got during my evaluation. Mark and Brandon suggested that I use Firefly as a sampling tool. In doing this process, the AI took certain elements from individual mockups and smashed them together to create something new. It is for this reason that I plan to continue experimenting with these for a little while so they can reach their full potential.
