May 2024
For more than 18 years, my life revolved solely around all things related to “The Bahamas”, but when I relocated to Massachusetts for college, it felt like two distinct worlds suddenly merged. For my final project at Montserrat College of Arts, I aim to merge what I’ve learnt here to highlight the splendor of the Bahamas. The project is going to be split into 3 main sections - Video, Photography and Graphic Design. For the video, I am thinking about making a short collage video of Bahamian culture along with some Bahamian music playing in the background.
My ultimate goal is to create a cookbook with some of our most of our Bahamian recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Alongside, a book that is dedicated to “All Tings Bahamian,” which will include our history, dialect, and folklore in a way that is distinctive and defines who we are. I want to use my photographic expertise to show off the real Bahamas—its charming features, beautiful landscapes, amazing food, and other things rather than just what everyone knows us for “sun, sand, and sea.” When it comes down to what my main question is for my project, it is simple: “Is it possible for me to showcase the love and culture of The Bahamas to America?”
